New England Rehabilitation Hospital Presents Employee Awards
New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland presented several awards at their annual Employee Appreciation Day celebrations. The 2015 event was held on May 27 and 28. The following staff members were recognized for their contributions:
Amanda Benner, physical therapist received The Buzz Fitzgerald Award, established by the friends and family of Buzz Fitzgerald to be awarded to a staff member who has demonstrated extraordinary care to rehabilitation patients and their families. Amanda is dedicated to ongoing education and achieving clinical excellence which supports her role as a mentor. She has played a key role in the development of the traumatic brain injury rehabilitation program and stroke rehabilitation program. She is a great team player and a credit to NERHP.
Moriah Vellani, Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse® was selected as Clinician of the Year, which recognizes an outstanding clinical employee who demonstrates NERHP’s commitment to patient care. Moriah provides strong leadership on her unit and in the hospital, holding herself and others to the highest standard of nursing care. She provides individualized, goal-oriented care and frequently exceeds expectations in the quality of her follow through. She provides excellent customer service and patient care while demonstrating teamwork on a daily basis.
Kellie Selberg, marketing coordinator, of Portland, was chosen as Outstanding Employee of the Year. Kellie is often the first person families meet in their search for the “right” rehabilitation. She makes each family feel special and welcomed. Her organizational skills are rivaled by none. She brings together staff through her work on the ACTivities Committee, assists the Brain Injury Voices group in their many endeavors and supports our patients with her work in the patient experience group.
Cathy Waterman, certified case management director, of Gorham, received the Leadership Award, given to a member of the hospital’s leadership team who has made significant contributions during the prior year. Cathy is a high-energy multi-tasker who always finds time to answer a question or chat briefly in the hallway. She has a strong base of knowledge clinically and with discharge planning. She is a resource for patients and families, and her staff. She is an advocate for patients and family members and is well respected by all levels of this organization–regional and local management, physicians, staff, vendors, patients and families.
Samantha Buttarazzi, clinical dietitian, of Portland, was the recipient of the Rehabilitation Services Award, spotlighting employees who work to improve patient care, and contribute behind the scenes. Samantha is professional, articulate, bright and passionate. Her smile brings joy to those around her, and her knowledge is evident each time she discusses her patient in team conference. She is very familiar with her patients, their history, their challenges, and what they need to get better.
Katie Smith, Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse® of Scarborough, was awarded the Sandra Marriner Certified Rehabilitation Nurse of the Year Award. This special award was established as a way to commemorate Sandra Marriner, a CRRN at NERHP, who passed away in 2010. The recipient is nominated by peers, co-workers and physicians. Katie has taken on and excelled in several roles within the nursing department-preceptor, staff nurse, charge nurse, and supervisor. She is active with all disciplines and respected by our team. She loves to teach, whether to patients and family or peers and colleagues. Her intelligence, humor, inquisitive nature and enthusiasm are key elements to her success.
